Musicians at Play’s “Voices United Through Music” program is a collaboration between students, teachers and community members, and MAP provides a tuition-free multi-week musicianship training series culminating in two free public and virtual performances. MAP Music Mentors are accredited Teaching Artists and local Film, Concert and Recording musicians who lead collaborative instrumental/and vocal music workshops sharing personal COVID-19 stories and professional Music experiences using music as a catalyst for personal cultural expression, fellowship and healing. The cultural demography of the mentors, representing over 15 different nationalities, is discussed as well as the historical roots of the music selections. Students will share their own cultures and select music related to their personal cultures and the cultural roots of the community they live in.
14 disciplines of music are taught, aligned with VAPA standards, including Choral/Trumpet/Trombone/Tuba/
MAP has made a commitment to advancing the leadership of and service to indigenous people, communities of color, racially and ethnically diverse individuals, LBGT, immigrant and refugee communities, and communities whose principal languages are not English.A Voices of Youth Task Force is developed by students to implement their program while in leadership roles of empowerment and independence.
PAT PRESCOTT
Voices of Youth Moderator and Radio Host at 94.7 The Wave
Pat Prescott is a native of Hampton, Va. and a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. After teaching junior high school for five years, she started her radio career at WYLD-FM in New Orleans.
Pat is a veteran broadcaster who spent most of her career in New York, beginning with a stint as music director and midday announcer at legendary jazz station WRVR. She held a number of positions at WBLS and WLIB, including morning show host, news announcer, talk show host and public affairs director. For thirteen years Pat was the morning show host at New York’s smooth jazz station CD 101.9.
Along with her on-air work, Pat appeared for 8 years in the New York company of the hit Off Broadway play “Mama I Want to Sing”. She is also a popular voiceover artist who for 10 years was the voice of the USA Network’s award winning late night program “Night Flight”. In addition, she is the voice of Time Warner Cable New York.
For six years Pat co-hosted the morning show on 94.7 The Wave with popular jazz artist and radio host Dave Koz and then for three years with Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Brian McKnight. Currently, Pat can be heard every weekday morning as solo host of the Wave’s morning show.
Pat is very active in the community and has received numerous awards and citations for her contributions. She was the recipient of Radio and Records’ Smooth Jazz Personality of the Year Award for six consecutive years and was honored with the 2016 Genii Award for Excellence in Radio from the Alliance For Women In Media.
Jamie Young-Eke
Program Leader
Jamie Young-Eke has been a successful advertising, sales, marketing and account manager in the radio Industry for over 32 years. She currently holds the position of Senior Account Manager at Audacy, a leading Audio Broadcast Company. Young-Eke attended UCLA and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson California. She currently sits on several boards of non-profit organizations including Musicians at Play and National College Resources Foundation.
Young-Eke has been married to her Husband Stanley for over 22 years and together they have raised 5 children. During her leisure time she enjoys dancing, going to the movies and attending concerts.
Young-Eke says, “I have a passion for live music, the arts & live entertainment. Musicians at Play provides me the opportunity to engage in my passion while doing something good for underrepresented youth in our communities.”
